About CompTIA

The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) is a leading voice and advocate for the $5 trillion global information technology ecosystem; and the estimated 75 million industry and tech professionals who design, implement, manage, and safeguard the technology that powers the world’s economy.

Through collaboration, education, certifications, advocacy and market research, CompTIA advances the industries and careers that rely on tech. They are a connected global community of informed advocates, championing modern technology (and the people who advance it) one day, one deployment, one discovery at a time.

CompTIA’s Hybrid Event Vision

CompTIA is adept at organising both in-person and online events of various sizes and formats for their stakeholders and regions. Keen to bring their entire ecosystem together to enjoy global insights, perspective, inspiration and networking, CompTIA decided to host a multi-timezone ‘Communities Around the World’ in August 2022. Starting in Australia, and ending in the States, the event was to take place across 4 global locations, and online.

CompTIA were well aware that delivering the world class experience their members and partners deserved was going to require a high level of planning, presence and attention to detail. The challenge was their internal team had another large event to deliver at the same time.  CompTIA needed some support.

“We knew we needed to work with a professional company who had done this before. We chose SyncSkills because they are subject matter experts in running events like this, and they have team members all over the world.”

How SyncSkills helped

Working with AV companies and facilitators; bridging four time zones across Australia, Benelux, UK and North America; streaming continuously for 12 hours; blending live and recorded elements, in-room and online sessions, speaker delivery and audience interactions – there was a lot to think about!

“SyncSkills were engaged right from the start,” says Estelle, “they were part of the team, and they just got stuck in. Gaelle and her team really understood our needs and goals, and went the extra mile to deliver. They helped us anticipate the technicalities that needed to be managed, like how to avoid feedback when the sound feed in one region crossed over to the next, how to ensure all online attendees were engaged during the times there were in-person activities taking place, and how to position live speakers well for both virtual and real life delivery. The production team were online at all times, making sure the tech worked, engaging with the people online and in the room, and reviewing the chat… And it worked! It ran smoothly, no hiccups.”

No mean feat given the level of complexity!

“SyncSkills superpower is their ability to adapt to different technologies and people. They worked with different cultures and personalities across the regions to make sure everything ran seamlessly.”

“We couldn’t have done it without them, they were the cog that made everything work.”

What did the delegates think?

“One of our attendees did ask how we’d managed it – having tried something similar themselves and declaring it a disaster! The whole point was that the technology was invisible so that whether in person or online, delegates were engaged and involved. The feedback was that with the different time zones, and technical complexity of not only having a hybrid meeting, but having a hybrid meeting in multi locations, with different teams, it was a seamless and very impressive execution.”

What’s next?

“We’re in the process of expanding to DACH and Asia, so we’re going to have more global communities to engage and interact with. The summit has proven we don’t have to jet around the world to come together in real time, hybrid events can be just as engaging and valuable. And in bringing so many diverse regions we’ve seen we have more in common than we have differences.”
